Summary – Designing a Multi-Account AWS Environment for Complex Organizations – SAP-C02 Study Guide

Summary

You explored a number of key topics in this chapter—how to best organize and isolate your AWS resources, which billing strategy to implement, how to leverage AWS Organizations and OUs to structure your AWS environment, how to enforce security best practices and protect your AWS environment using SCPs, and finally, how to automate governance at scale with Control Tower.

The topics covered in the first three chapters are part of the foundational skills that you must know inside out to be a successful AWS solutions architect. We will build upon these foundations as we progress on to more complex and advanced topics in the rest of the book.

In Chapter 4, Ensuring Cost Optimization, you will explore the various mechanisms and services that you can leverage to keep your AWS bills under control.

Chapter 4 Ensuring Cost Optimization

In the previous section, we explored various AWS pricing models and how each of these models varies from service to service. In addition to this, you also learned about the importance of evaluating your costs and explored a few AWS services that help customers understand, evaluate, and forecast their spending on the cloud.

In this section and chapter, you will explore various options and opportunities that a solutions architect can undertake to ensure that costs are evaluated and optimized throughout the lifecycle of a particular workload. You will learn about certain design principles using the Well-Architected Framework (WAF), along with taking a deeper dive into how you can ensure governance, reporting, and monitoring of your costs using a combination of design strategies as well as AWS services and tools.

The following main topics will be covered in this chapter:

  • Cost optimization principles
  • Establishing governance with tagging
  • Monitoring with alerts, notifications, and reports
