The PL-500 Microsoft Power Automate RPA Developer is a certification exam for candidates who already automate Windows-based, browser-based, and terminal-based applications. These tasks are time-consuming, contain repetitive processes, and use a mix of automation approaches, such as Database, AP, and UI.
Candidates will demonstrate their skills in optimizing business workflows and deploying and supporting solutions in other environments. Each candidate should have experience with Microsoft Dataverse, the Windows desktop environment, scripting languages such as JavaScript or VBScript, and the NET framework used in custom actions. They should also be familiar with design automation and their development and be able to deploy and manage it.
Certification candidates should also understand how to design automation, including model-driven apps and Canvas. They will be asked to demonstrate their experience developing automation using connectors, connection references, custom connectors, and connections for cloud flows. Having a firm understanding of design automation that includes the Microsoft database is a plus.
If they are unfamiliar with how to build custom connectors, candidates are encouraged to learn to do this prior to the exam. They will also be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of implementing authentication for custom connectors and to implement custom connector policy templates. They also should understand how to develop code in a custom connector.
Microsoft offers candidates a change log that can be consulted before the exam. This log will keep candidates apprised of any changes or additions to the list of topics and requirements so they may be better prepared when exam day arrives. The company also offers in-person exam prep classes and provides all the materials necessary for self-paced exam study. In-class and self-study candidates will be provided with numerous study aids upon request. They will also be given links for documents and videos that can be very helpful during the exam prep.
