Microsoft offers the MS-721 exam for certification as a Collaboration Communications Systems Engineer. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their expertise in planning, deploying, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting collaboration communication systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Teams Phone, meetings Premium, CoPilot in Teams, and Teams Rooms. The exam also demonstrates candidates’ proficiency in other certified and supported devices.
As collaboration communications systems engineers, qualified candidates already possess a foundational understanding of networking, audio/visual, telecommunications, meeting room technologies, access, and identity management. They are knowledgeable about managing collaboration and communications solutions and understand how to use Microsoft Teams admin center, Rooms Pro Management portal, and PowerShell. They are also familiar with and can operate the Microsoft Call Quality Dashboard.
Qualified exam candidates all have experience working with Microsoft Teams administrators and the company’s identity and access administrators. They also have experience working with Microsoft 365 administrators and the owners of other workloads. These include but are not limited to, facilities managers, security engineers, network engineers, telephony providers, device manufacturers, and Microsoft solutions providers.
To pass the exam, candidates should have a firm knowledge of and be able to demonstrate that they can plan and design collaboration communications systems. They should also have expertise in configuring and managingteam meetings, webinars, and town halls. They should know how to configure and manage Teams Phone, and about 30% of the exam is dedicated to their ability to configure and manage Teams Rooms and associated devices.
One of the most important areas of the exam is establishing the candidate’s sills in configuring dynamic emergency calling, which includes the ability to design solutions for the application and configure emergency calling locations.
It is recommended that exam candidates train and obtain hands-on experience prior to taking the exam. Microsoft offers self-study options, classroom training, links to community sites, documentation, and videos.
